在已發展國家,癌症是導致死亡的第二大元凶。一般抗癌藥物非選擇性地殺死癌細胞與正常細胞, 其副作用亦影響了很多患者的生活質量。 飲食輔助(如補充多元不飽和脂肪酸)已被證明可以透過改善細胞膜流動性而增強藥物療效並減低化療副作用。GLA 被認為是其中一種可輔助化療的多不飽和脂肪酸，包括乳腺異變細胞，胰腺異變細胞，結腸異變細胞，腦異變細胞等。2,3,6,9 |

GLA 與頑症
在前臨床研究中, GLA 已被證明可發揮以下的抗異變細胞活性:
- 抑製異變細胞轉移7
- 抑製異變細胞中血管增生7
- 刺激異變細胞細胞凋亡 / 死亡2
- 選擇性地殺死異變性細胞1
GLA和其他化療藥物之間的協同作用
GLA本身不僅可直接殺死異變細胞，也可以與多種化療藥物產生協同作用，如paclitaxel5、vinorelbine8、doxorubicin4、mitoxantrone and idarubicin10、5-fluorouacil 和 germcitabine6。更值得注意的是，一個針對乳腺異變細胞的臨床試驗中證實了合拚服用 GLA 與藥物 tamoxifen 能提高藥物的療效，減少副作用及縮短治療反應時間3，這進一步表明GLA可與化療藥物一同應用並作為輔助療法。
